UH v Rice 2010

With the UH and Rice game being held at Rice University this year, the Buggy Beauties are hoping to be able to attend this away games, given it's such close proximity. The Buggy(which most people recognize as the helmet) is older and there are concerns that it cannot withstand the travel. However, given the amazing season that UH had last year, hopefully Buggy Beauties will be able to attend away games soon and what a better way to start than with the UH v Rice game. Being one of the oldest traditions at the University, and with UH striving toward Tier 1 status, I feel that it is important for the University to amp up every tradition and trademark that we have.

Summer Practices

The UH Buggy Beauties have begun planning practices for this summer. The team plans on making up new cheers for this upcoming Fall 2010 season. The current cheers have been passed down for the past couple years and this new group of girls is now taking the initiative to re-vamp cheers and add more. With a new member to the team, this will be a great opportunity to involve new ideas and allow her to participate in the process.

Beauty Ride

CBS Sports online is hosting a University of Houston Buggy Beauty Ride in which people can log online and bid for a chance to ride down on the field with the Buggy Beauties at one of the games. The ride is best for children, either boys or girls between 6 and 12 and the auction is only good for one ride.

Fall 2009-UH 50, Southern Miss 43

Recently I was browsing the internet about UH football when I came across this picture and caption on chron.com. The picture is of Mrs. Stinson, the Buggy Beauty sponsor. At the UH v Southern Miss we wore black ribbons on our uniforms and Mrs. Stinson placed one on the buggy to honor and recognize John O'Quinn who had passed away just before the game. The University of Houston football field is named the John O' Quinn field; however, this was done prior to his death.

John O'Quinn was one of the university's largest supporters. He was a Houston attorney, a 1967 UH Law Center alumnus and committed to UH academics and athletics. In 1998, a generous donation by John O' Quinn allowed for a massive renovation of Robertson's Stadium, including luxury suites, replacing the track and increasing capacity.

Being such a dedicated alumnus to the university, this was a tragic game for the stadium as a whole. In the attached picture, Mrs. Stinson shows her support to John O' Quinn in a manner for the whole stadium to see as the buggy crossed the field in a victorious game against Southern Miss.

Beginning to a New Year

As this spring semester comes to an end the University of Houston Buggy beauties are planning and setting dates for practices this summer to prepare for the fall football season. With a new addition to the team, the practices are crucial. It is very important that she learn the material as well as allow the older members a chance to review since it will be nearly a year since they have last practiced routines. This upcoming week, the UH Buggy Beauties will be setting their practice dates and beginning the appropraite preparations for the upcoming season.
