Recently I was browsing the internet about UH football when I came across this picture and caption on chron.com. The picture is of Mrs. Stinson, the Buggy Beauty sponsor. At the UH v Southern Miss we wore black ribbons on our uniforms and Mrs. Stinson placed one on the buggy to honor and recognize John O'Quinn who had passed away just before the game. The University of Houston football field is named the John O' Quinn field; however, this was done prior to his death.
John O'Quinn was one of the university's largest supporters. He was a Houston attorney, a 1967 UH Law Center alumnus and committed to UH academics and athletics. In 1998, a generous donation by John O' Quinn allowed for a massive renovation of Robertson's Stadium, including luxury suites, replacing the track and increasing capacity.
Being such a dedicated alumnus to the university, this was a tragic game for the stadium as a whole. In the attached picture, Mrs. Stinson shows her support to John O' Quinn in a manner for the whole stadium to see as the buggy crossed the field in a victorious game against Southern Miss.
